- We are proud that Andrew (Andy) Matthews has been named as one of Who’s Who Legal “Thought Leaders – Competition 2023”. We also congratulate the other two named individuals – our friends and colleagues barrister Sarah Keene and economist James Mellsop.
- We welcome Charlie Matthews to the Matthews Law team and wish him the best in his exchange to National Cheng Kung University in Tainan, Taiwan.
- We congratulate Danny Xie on her promotion to Associate.

Charlie Matthews joins Matthews Law
Charlie has joined Matthews Law as an intern and assists with competition analysis and research. Charlie is studying a BA/LLB majoring in Economics with modules in Chinese 2 and Arts Scholars at the University of Auckland. He received the University of Auckland’s Faculty of Law Entry Level Scholarship and the NZQA Scholarship Award.
Charlie is fluent in Spanish and is about to spend seven weeks in Taiwan studying Mandarin at National Cheng Kung University, funded by the Prime Minister’s Scholarship for Asia. We wish Charlie safe travels and hope to see him return in the new year.
Danny Xie promoted to Associate
Danny first joined the firm as a Law Clerk in 2020, and since then has been involved in numerous, merger, cartel and advisory matters. She played a significant role in the Commerce Commission’s Markey Study into the grocery sector, assisting the New Zealand Food & Grocery Council.
Since joining, Danny has completed a BCom/LLB(hons) from the University of Auckland, graduating with a Senior Scholar Award in the Faculty of Business, and has been admitted to the bar.
